Though it's already a simple process, there is much more room for improvements when it comes to taking screenshots. One way of making it more convenient is to use Sniptool. It lets you take snapshots of the screen at a moment's notice and it provides you with a good amount of annotation tools. If you need to show something on your screen, draw attention to a specific spot and explain something, this piece of software has everything you need.

Sniptool is offered completely free of charge and it can be used on all popular Windows platforms. It comes as a single executable, which you need to extract from a ZIP archive. There is no need to install any prerequisite tools or services before launching the application and you won't notice any impact on your computer's performance.

The application provides a clean and simple user interface, with only a few options, which are represented by large and easy-to-spot icons. You can take snapshots of the screen right away, either by drawing a rectangle or a custom shape. The captured image is loaded immediately on the main interface, where you can make various annotations.

Drawing or highlighting freely on the snapshot is just the beginning of what you can do. It is also possible to draw shapes, insert numbered bullets and blur parts of the image. The software lets you take subsequent snapshots, which are loaded on the same window, alongside the previous one. What's more, screenshots are inserted on their own layers, which you can move and annotate separately and move them to the background or bring them up in the foreground.

If you are satisfied with your annotated snapshot, you can proceed to saving it on the hard drive, in JPEG or PNG format. Alternatively, you can copy your work to the clipboard and paste it in another editor, if you have a larger project in the works.

Taking screenshots and highlighting specific bits can be the simplest thing you have ever done, thanks to Sniptool's user-friendly design.

Pros

Sniptool provides you with various annotation tools. You can load several snapshots onto the same interface, on separate layers. The software is lightweight, free and it doesn't need to be installed.

Cons

The application doesn't come with any sharing or cloud uploading capabilities.
